Dieting is ruff (pun intended). It’s hard for humans and presumably just as difficult for dogs.
When an owner feeds his best friend oodles of snacks, the weight sneaks right on there. When dog mom sneaks table scraps to her pooch, the calories creep onto even the strongest frame.
A dog can blame it on having a bony frame or lack of exercise, so when an owner decides it’s time for Fido to eat healthier, you can expect a little backlash.
But no one expected the type of tantrum Cashew the French bulldog threw when he’s denied a second helping of breakfast.
It’s true that overweight pets can develop an array of serious health problems, many of which are shared with overweight humans. There’s doggie diabetes, respiratory issues, high blood pressure, liver disease, osteoarthritis and an increased risk for developing malignant tumors.
Pet owners should keep their furry friends as fit as can be. But sometimes, that doesn’t always happen.
Jennah Michelle, Cashew’s owner, realized her favorite pooch was bordering on the edge of plump. Before it took a toll on his health, she decided to cut back on the servings of dog food he eats each day.
Needless to say, Cashew was less than impressed.
The adorable Frenchie loves Cheerios and cashews, along with ample servings of his dog food. So when he reaches the bottom of his shiny silver bowl, he pauses as if to think, “Where did my food go?” Then he growls at the empty bowl, displeased with running out of food.
Mom Jennah begins to gently lecture him that he doesn’t get any more food for breakfast.
“No…you’ve had enough. Your breakfast is gone. Move on.”
Cashew growls a bit louder, a bit more vocal, to let Jennah know he isn’t very happy with her answer.
“No, you’ll get more at supper. You’re not starving.”
Cashew growls again and sharply barks his disagreement. Yes, yes he is starving. Where’s my food, he seems to ask.
“No … you’re on a diet.”
As soon as Jennah utters that four-letter word, Cashew looks like she just insulted him.
His world just came crashing down with that one mean word. He makes sure to let her know he isn’t happy with his mom, the word “diet” and her withholding his seconds.
Cashew loses it and lets loose a hideous racket that French bulldogs are best known for. His ear-piercing howls actually hurt your ears.
“You’re on a diet because you’re a little chubby okay?”
The look Cashew gives her screams disbelief that his huma would say something so insulting to him. How dare she?!
Then he talks back with some serious smack. His boisterous barking and howling is crazy. How can something so noisy come out of such a small package?
“Hey do you want a snack? Like an ice cube?”
Mom’s trying to pacify Cashew with the frozen treat that lots of dogs love. He pauses, looking at Jennah as if to say, “Seriously? An ICE CUBE?!”
This little Indiana Frenchie has plenty to say about this diet his mom’s put him on and none of it seems to be real positive. Could you only imagine if dogs could speak English what this guy would be saying?
This dog is hilarious to watch! Check him out for yourself in the video below and be prepared to hear his ear-piercing howls.
