Life without a dog is no life at all. That is what Jack and his three housemates recently discovered. Jack McCrossan and three of his friends moved into a new house in the British city of Bristol. All four of the guys had grown up with dogs as pets, so it was hard news when they discovered their new landlord did not allow pets.

This was made even harder when they saw their neighbor had a dog. Instead of staring at their neighbor’s dog in jealousy and sadness, Jack and his house mates took action. They decided to write a letter to their neighbor with the highest of hopes.

“The other day, we noticed a four-legged friend looking at us out the window when we arrived home from work. He or he looked like the good-est boy/girl there is. If you ever need someone to walk him/her, we will gladly do so.”

They were worried about the reaction this letter might bring, as they have not met their neighbors yet, but the hopes of playing with a dog was stronger than their fear. They added into the letter they would even love for them “to walk past our balcony windows so we can see him/her.”

They dropped off their letter and waited for a response, whatever it may be. They had no idea the letter they would receive back.

The boys did not receive a letter from the neighbor, but rather a letter from the neighbor’s dog herself. The letter was even stamped with her paw! They first learned that the dog was a girl named Stevie and, yes, she was very excited to play with them as well!

“I am two years and 4 months old, and I am Sheprador (Lab x GSD)… I love meeting new people and it would be great if we could be friends.”

Jack stated in his Twitter post about the exchange that the “response was better than we could have ever hoped for.” Jack and his house mates might not be able to have their own dog, but they have found a doggie friend in Stevie!

Jack McCrossan posted on Twitter about this exchange on December 10th. Five days later, everyone received the update we have been waiting for. All four boys had finally met Stevie! Not one of the boys wanted to miss out on their first opportunity and they all took Stevie for a walk.

“Meeting Stevie was great!” said McCrossan. “She was definitely as energetic as described. We got to take her for a walk and she wouldn’t stop running!”

Stevie and the boys had an hour hang out session after the walk at their house. Stevie’s owners could hear her through the walls, as happy as can be. It was not only love at first sight for the boys, it was for Stevie as well.

“…when they dropped her back home she sat whining at the door and window for hours afterwards,” Stevie’s owner said.

The “boys in 23” might not be able to own their own dog, but luckily they now have next door neighbor Stevie that would “love to hang out whenever you fancy.” If you would like to keep up with Stevie’s adventures you can follow her on Instagram!
