Becoming a parent can be somebody’s lifelong dream. Everything from watching your child’s first steps to hearing their first word makes all of the difficulties of parenthood disappear. Most people find it simple to one day have a baby, but for others, it can be a very challenging road even when they want it so badly.
An Unconditional Love
There are plenty of people who aren’t able to have children of their own, so they look into adoption. But adopting a baby can be an extremely difficult process, constantly waiting for your bundle of joy. A journey filled with paperwork and defeat. But a man named Luca Trapanese was not going to let those obstacles stop him from becoming the father he was destined to be.
His Greatest Dream
Luca is a gay single man from Italy who has undergone plenty of hurdles in his lifetime. In Italy, social services made it impossible for a single homosexual to adopt a child of their own, no matter how accomplished and clean their background is. Until 2017 when the adoption bans were lifted and Luca was finally able to apply for adoption.
With All Odds Against Him
Ever since he was little he’d always dreamed of being a father and this was finally his chance. Luca explained that he was told he would only be able to adopt a child with behavioral or health problems. But that only motivated him, even more.
A Dream Come True
In July of 2017, 41-year-old Luca received a call from social services that they had a baby girl for him. Sweet little Alba was less than a month old with down syndrome and already rejected by more than 2o families.
The Call That Changed Everything…
Luca was over the moon thrilled and he rushed to the hospital to meet his new daughter. Luca explained the incredible moment,
“When I first held her in my arms, I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away.”
It was love at first sight, and Luca couldn’t have been more excited to be Alba’s father. Unlike all of those other families, Alba’s condition didn’t scare Luca one bit. In fact, Luca has worked for organizations that help with specials needs kids since he was 14-years-old.
Meant To Be
His experience with children with disabilities prepared him for the greatest job of his life… being Alba’s father. Luca spoke about how Alba changed his life saying,
“Alba completely revolutionized my life. Now everything revolves around her. She brought me happiness and a sense of fulfillment. I am proud to be her dad.”
A Perfect Pair
The father-daughter duo couldn’t be happier to have one another. Their journey continues to inspire others all over the world. Luca has even published a book titled “Vi Stupiremo Con Difetti Speciali“ which translates to ‘We Will Amaze You With Special Defects‘.
“The book destroys many stereotypes about fatherhood, religion, and family.” Luca explained.
An Infinite Love
Life is filled with obstacles but that’s what makes the journey ever so beautiful. Luca and Alba’s remarkable story is the definition of unconditional love.
