When a family goes out to run errands, head to work, or go off to school for the day, they expect to come home in the same way they left it. But in the case of the Keathley family of Cleveland, Ohio, this wasn’t the case. The day started off as usual with Logan, the 18-year-old son, heading off to school and his mother to work. By the time he arrived home, things were obviously amiss.

When Logan came up the driveway, he noticed that several things weren’t the same as they were that morning. One thing was the family’s protective German Shepherd. He was agitated, running up and down the driveway while repeatedly looking at the house.

Then Logan discovers even more things out of the norm.

Upon further inspection, Logan also saw the sliding glass door was shattered into hundreds of pieces. As he got closer to the house, he could hear noises coming from inside. That made him feel a little bit nervous. But it was when the odor from the burglar wafted his direction that he truly became confused.

Logan called his mom to let her know that something was going on.

After reaching his mom Jennifer at work, he told her someone had broken into the house. He stayed on the phone with her as he began to look around. The floors were scuffed up, there were pieces of glass everywhere, and the house stunk…plain and simple. But as got closer to the noise, that’s when he decided he’d better leave the house and call the police.

Once on the scene, the police began the investigation.

Reaching the Keathley home, scene, the Sheriff’s deputies set out to find the perpetrator. Having no idea who broke in or how dangerous they might be, they wanted to locate the culprit as quickly as possible. As they went through the house, they noticed strange sounds coming from inside the bathroom. When they opened the door, the deputies were shocked — the culprit — a snoring goat.

How in the heck did a goat end up inside their house?

As it turns out, a goat recently escaped from a farm located a few miles up the road from the Keathley residence. He was apparently hungry. So, he butted heads with the patio’s sliding door, and once it broke, he made his way inside. He then headed toward the bathroom. After curling up near the heating vent, he took a nap. You can’t blame the guy…he just wanted a warm and comfortable place to relax.

The deputies had to use brute strength to take the suspect into custody.

The two deputies tried unsuccessfully for a few hours to coax Big Boy, as he is affectionately known, out of the house. Eventually, they had to grab hold of his horns to guide him in the right direction. From there, they placed him inside a dog crate until they finally identified the owner via Facebook.

Thankfully, this wasn’t a traditional burglary.

The Keathley family is just happy that a person didn’t enter their home. The mess was relatively easy to clean up and the leftover scuffs remind them that this incident could’ve been far worse. The only problem … Big Boy left his unpleasant odor behind.

“Definitely could have been worse. The residual stink is the biggest problem,” Jennifer said. Although initially alarming, they now have a great story to share.
