Formation dance is considered as a type of ballroom dancing. It involves shadow team dancing performed by couples in a formation team. Some use choreographies based on dance medleys while others simply base it on a specific dance. It is, for the most part, not an easy dance sport.
The Vera Tyumen Latin Team knows that too well.
The dancers took part in the WDSF World DanceSport Championship Formation Standard. With their skills and precision, they impressed everyone who watched them that day.
At the beginning of their performance, the group was lined up on the side. On the left side of the line, the boys were all wearing suits. The women, on the other hand, were wearing glittery dresses with purple outskirts lined with feathers. There was no hint of nervousness on their faces or the way they stand.
The crowd started clapping and chanting their name. After a while, the team started walking towards the center of the venue. They were ready and everyone can easily tell.
The group’s movement started slow.
After a while, the women started turning and the men were quick on their feet to follow them. Each movement they made with their hands looked calculated and no one missed a single step. Even the way they form their lines was impressive.
Halfway through their performance, the group picked up some speed.
They started twirling, swinging, and dancing all over the arena. It was mesmerizing to see how their dresses flow in sync with the melody.
The crowd couldn’t get enough of the Vera Tyumen Latin Team.
And they weren’t the only ones. Even those who have watched their video online were quite impressed as well.
One of them said:
“It’s great. One of the best teams ever.”
Another one commented:
“People of Tyumen, a major Siberian city, are proud of their brilliant dancers. Composition, performance, music, costumes are fantastic! Competing teams included dancers from Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia and other countries. Vera was the best, best in the world! Voice of Lara Fabian decorates the wonderful miracle of dance! Bravo!”
The group’s video has over 280, 000 views to date. And the majority of the comments there were praises.
The Vera Tyumen Latin Team ended up winning the competition.
The result wasn’t really a surprise. With how well the group moved and how well they choreographed their steps, they were a clear winner to the eyes of everyone who’ve seen them at the competition. They didn’t just show skills and talent but they were oozing with confidence as well.
The World DanceSport Federation started in 1935 under a different name, Fédération Internationale de Danse pour Amateurs. It was dissolved a couple of years later and was revived under another name. It officially became World DanceSport Federation in 2011.
In 2010, the DanceSport premiered in the Asian Games which was held in Guangzhou, China. After that, it continued to gain more popularity and respect. Last 2017, the federation celebrated its 60th year.
