Mailmen and mailwomen encounter dogs on their routes all of the time. We image that some of these encounters are a bit frightening because some guard dogs can be pretty scary (and will back at them!). However, there are also a lot of times when mailmen encounter the cutest dogs that are impossible not to smile at.
Some of these dogs are so cute, in fact, that the mailmen will take photos of them along their routes so they can show the rest of us just how awesome it is to encounter these adorable pups.
We scoured the Internet for the best photos that mailmen have taken of dogs along their routes, and this is what we came up with. Some dogs have complicated relationships with their mailmen, but these 35 photos will show you that doesn’t have to be the case. These well-trained pups prove that dog vs. mailman stereotypes are so over.
Which of these dogs is your favorite? Personally, I like #27 but let us know your favorite in the comments!
1) There ain’t nothin’ like a hound dog
This hound let the mailman by unscathed. Now he’s got a stack of mail to proudly present to his family. He’s a good boy if there ever was one.
2) Special delivery
Some pups go the extra mile. Maybe it’s the joy of popping bubble wrap with your teeth, but nothing makes getting a package more special than a friendly delivery and a little drool!
3) Old dog, new tricks
This old girl is as excited as you are about the arrival of your new shoes. Hopefully, she treats the contents as gently as the package. Needless to say, there’s no cuter way to end your online shopping adventure.
4) Someone’s happy about the phone bill
This golden retriever is so excited to get his owner’s mail that he waits for the mailman every day. It’s the best part of the mailman’s day too. Check out this video of him taping the exchange.
5) Famous mail dogs
Pippa the golden retriever got famous after her mail carrier Martin Studer, from Brisbane, Australia, posted her story to Facebook. He told his friends that this little lady gets so distraught if there’s no mail, he started making fake letters just for her. As you can see, his actions are much appreciated.
6) The best mail route ever
Pippa’s not the only dog on Martin Studer’s route to receive mail directly from his hands. He’s either the luckiest or the kindest mailman ever. This photo was also shared on his Facebook page.
7) Your contract, sir
Dogs are even taking care of inter-office correspondence. This is way better than getting anything hand-delivered from HR. I just hope it’s good news.
8) Finally, some good news
And let’s not forget that dogs have been taught to fetch the newspaper for decades. This is Quincy, from Boulder, Colorado. While the rest of us are just getting up, he’s anxious to start his daily paper route. His owner even made him a reflective vest so he can help out safely.
9) Upgraded doggie delivery
FedEx posted this image on Twitter when a fluffy friend on their route was all too happy to receive the delivery for its owner. I wonder how she signed for it.
10) UPS: United Puppy Service
And it’s not just FedEx that has a canine following. UPS has its own Facebook page dedicated to the dogs on their routes that make their days extra special.
11) They say you start to look alike
The UPS Dogs Facebook page is full of selfies of drivers with their favorite canine customers. This pup even dressed up as his favorite mail-carrying superhero for his photo op!
12) Hero status
Looks like this UPS driver has a cult following. All the neighborhood dogs gather around him when he makes a delivery in the neighborhood. Is someone having cases of bacon delivered?!
13) Drive-by friending
Some dogs chase the letter-carrier just for a scratch behind the ears. These two love visiting their favorite mail lady in her truck. And it looks like she’s a fan too.
14) What’cha got in there?
Sometimes packages get lost, but this canine is on the case. He’s helping his favorite mailman sniff out the right package.
15) Puppy love
There must be something about golden retrievers because they sure do love their mailmen and women. Here, Lynne Church gives some love to Molly in Jacksonville, Florida. Molly loves to run outside and greet Lynne as soon as she hears her truck.
16) Treat time!
This mail woman loves this pack of golden retrievers so much she brings them snacks on her route each day. This is clearly with the owner’s permission, since they were behind the camera in the video. Everyone sure looks happy to see one another!

17) Truly pawesome
This pup is all too happy to take the mail directly to the mailbox for his owner. It’s the perfect reason to take your dog for a walk. Everybody wins!
18) Fetch, Sugar
This is Sugar. All her owner has to say is “can you go get the mail?” and she runs straight to the box, opens it up, and fetches what’s inside. While it undoubtedly comes back with a few teeth marks, she looks awfully proud trotting back to the house with it. Try not watching this video more than once.
19) Signed, sealed, delivered
Who can resist the looks on this dog’s face as he or she puts some snail mail in the local mailbox? There aren’t too many things we have to stick in the mail anymore, so perhaps some lucky bill processor somewhere will get a nice mystery as they try to decipher the tooth marks on the envelope.
20) Great expectations
What if your dog loves the mailbox AND the mailman? There’s only one solution – give him both. This little guy, named Scooter, waits anxiously for that day’s mail perched atop his owner’s home mailbox. If you’re a fan, you can even follow Scooter on Facebook.
21) I am the mail
This fluffball is truly one with the mail. Pretty soon he won’t fit in there, but until then, can you imagine delivering the mail at this house? Cuteness overload.
22) The perfect perch
Golden lab puppies are so darn cute. This little one seems to be perfectly happy to chill inside the family mailbox until the end of his photo op.
23) Outgrown the mailbox? No problem.
We all know what it feels like to grow out of things. Luckily, this guy knows how to make the most of it. He’s showing off some great balancing skills while waiting for the mail.
24) The indoor stalker
Some dogs have to wait indoors for the mailman, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be their favorite part of the day. This Jack Russell patiently waits for the mail to drop. Though what happens next will remain a mystery.
25) The mail taster
They say there’s nothing like a handwritten letter. It’s probably best to make sure its recipient doesn’t have a mail slot and a bored dog first. This family friend loves mail…but for lunch!
26) Ruh roh
Chewing things can be a sign of separation anxiety. These cute doggies clearly miss their owners, but probably aren’t in for a warm greeting when they get home. Still, a dog’s memory is short and they can be trained. And just look at those faces! How could you possibly be mad for more than a few minutes?
27) Keep dreaming
Ever walk into a room and forget what you came in for? Looks like this dog got sleepy waiting for the mailman. What’s more impressive is that the delivery didn’t even wake him up. Sweet dreams, pup!
28) This is for me
Maybe your dog has a penpal you don’t know about. Maisy the doodle looks a little possessive of this particular envelope. A love letter from the pooch down the street, perhaps?
29) All in
Some dogs can’t be trained out of their love of mail, so you have to just indulge their ambitions. Marnie might be ever-so-slightly breaking the law by using this bin for private use, but I’m sure no one is ready to turn her in. But I bet she’d make a cute mug shot!
30) Man’s best friend
This UPS driver’s selfies are enough to convince us that dogs and delivery men are not natural enemies. Some training and lots of love go into socializing your dog to be friendly to those approaching your home. And it sure helps when those people love your pups back.
31) Shall I bring you the business section, ma’am?
And while the occasional letter or newspaper can be too delicious to pass up, lots of dogs are happy to bring you your daily deliveries. After all, they just want you to love them.
32) They have a history
Did you know dogs helped deliver the mail from the earliest days of the US Postal Service? Long before we threw half our mail into the recycling bin, dogs were helping important correspondence cross the country. These Alaskan snowdogs were hard at work all the way back in 1910.
33) The accidental mail carrier
There were actually some very famous mail dogs in the early days of US mail. Dorsey was an accidental mail dog in San Bernadino County, California during the Silver Rush in the mid-1900s, and his mail route ran between Calico and Bismark (the two towns he would run away to when he was feeling naughty). There are even children’s books written about him and you can check out his story here.
34) Gettin’ it done
Maybe this Yorkie read the story of Dorsey and was inspired for his Halloween costume this year. Needless to say, she’s proving that if the uniform fits, you must wear it.
35) You’ve got mail
Some dogs are only as charming as the people who own them. This lot has shown us that dogs can adore their mailmen and women and (sometimes) fetch the mail without mangling it. These dog parents are clearly doing a great job training their furry friend to show respect to the ones who deliver our mail in the snow, rain, heat, and gloom of night.
These adorable pups upend the stereotype that dogs and mail (and mail-carriers) don’t mix. They love their daily mail, pose for selfies with delivery men and women, and prove that there’s still a place for snail mail in our digital world.
