The 60s most celebrated folk duo from New York.

“The Sound of Silence” has aged well, and remains a staple for each generation since its release. Many aspiring and known artists have covered the song and added a little bit of their own flavor to it. Described as “the quintessential folk rock release”, it was named as the 18th most-performed song of the 20th century.

There is a singer and pianist from Seattle, Washington with her own version of the classic song. She is Nouela.

Her undeniable talent has gotten a lot of attention and people have taken notice.

Nouela Johnston is of Norwegian and Korean descent.

Her rendition of “The Sound of Silence” is so catchy that it was more than perfect for this group’s incredible performance.

The dance is a fusion of contemporary, ballet, and jazz and choreographed by Kimmy Matich.

The result is a mesmerizing and magical presentation.

Clean white outfits against a stage of blue and purple lights.

These six young ladies took their places and in their plain white leotards bear a striking representation of the dance and their song of choice. The result is visually stunning. Their movements are out of this world. The stretches and poses stand out as these women have such long limbs.

Nouela’s unique voice adds to the mystique of the dance’s theme.

Using a classic and timeless song can be daunting and expectations will be high. This is a song that is near and dear to the hearts of many so to be able to pair it with such a striking dance is a different level of talent.

Simon and Garfunkel describe the song as “the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other.”

That is deep.

They owned it and did not disappoint.

Who would have thought that “The Sound of Silence” could be sang in Nouela’s own unique way? And who would have thought that a song sung that way could be paired with such an enchanting dance? This is artistry.

Nouela Johnston decided to do a solo record after a decade of playing in bands.

These dancers, with swept back ponytails and expressionless faces move so gracefully. It’s a slow, sweeping routine that just goes so well with the melody of the song. Nouela’s version is spell-binding and these dancers executed such a stunning display that it’s hard to not want to see more of them.

This is how you make people take notice.

Aesthetically appealing and striking.

It just goes to show that while people are used to the mainstream artists and dancers, there are still a few incredible artists out there. And perhaps more.
