In times of emergency, we constantly rely on the fact that there are cops who are always around to help. They do whatever they can in order to carry out their responsibility of keeping everyone in the neighborhood safe and protected. And by “everyone”, I meant not only humans but even the animals that reside in the community as well.

A Florida resident named Patrick Hennessy was on his way to work at 4:30 in the morning when he spotted two figures in the middle of the road. It was difficult to make out what they were so he went and took a better look. When he reached the pair, he realized he was looking at a couple of pit bulls, one of which seemed unable to move because of an injury considering there was also blood on the pavement.

He was unsure of how bad the dog’s injury was and the animal might need urgent medical attention. The only persons that he knew could assist in these kinds of incidents were the cops and so, Patrick instantly contacted 911 and requested for help. Fortunately, two police officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were quick to respond to Patrick’s call for help.

When Officer Boggs and Reed arrived on the area, the two pit bulls were huddled together, the other one refusing to leave her injured companion. Eventually, the animals learned to warm up to the officers and did not protest when the cops moved them on the side of the road so they can be safe from oncoming vehicles.

The police officers then called the Orange County Animal Services so the injured dog can receive treatment and for the pups to be taken to a safer place to stay and recuperate. The injured pit bull looked like she was hit by a car that resulted to a big wound in her leg. Both of the dogs were wearing collars, which could sadly mean that they were both abandoned.

While waiting for the Animal Service to arrive, the police officers stayed and cuddled with the pups. They also gave them snacks which made the dogs even friendlier and at ease. The cops and the dogs only parted ways when Animal Service finally came to take them to the local shelter.

Because of the unselfish and moving act of these two policemen, an onlooker named Adam who happened to be at the scene, was inspired to take photos and praise these men’s act of kindness on Facebook. His post went viral and eventually reached the Sheriff’s Facebook page. He wrote,

“The deputies stood by with the dogs until Animal Services arrived. These pictures I took depict a loving nature from our deputies and will tug at any animal lover’s heart strings. Thank you.”

Tons of heartfelt comments and words of praise were posted on Facebook, showing just how much people appreciated the simple yet meaningful deed of these amazing police officers. They just showed everyone that genuine concern for the community should not only include the people who live in the neighborhood but must also be extended towards the animals that reside alongside those citizens.

The two pit bulls, on the other hand, were able to recover completely after some days’ rest and care while staying in the shelter. Officers Boggs and Reed came to visit them and the pups totally remembered their rescuers! The men fondly named the dogs Liberty and Justice, and all of them played and cuddled together, absolutely enjoying each other’s company.
