It doesn’t take insanely technical dance moves to steal the show.

Sometimes, all it takes is a brown paper bag, a cowboy hat, and a whole lot of confidence.

During a pep rally at a Texas high school, Resource Officer Varner uses this exact recipe to get the students excited.

He stands in the middle of the gym floor, with nothing but his uniform on and a brown paper bag at his feet.

Then, over the speakers, “Old Town Road” by Little Nas X comes on and the students in the crowd go crazy.

They start cheering and screaming and the officer hasn’t even done anything yet.

He reaches down into the brown paper bag and pulls out an awesome pair of shades and slides them on his face.

This elicits another round of cheers form the high school students and when he pulls the second item out of the bag, they get even louder.

Officer Varner pulls a cowboy hat from the bag and casually places it on his head.

Now he’s looking extra cool with his sunglasses on and his hat pulled down low.

The students can’t wait to see what Varner is going to do and he has been building up the anticipation by standing very still.

He lets his hands rest on his utility belt as the intro to the song comes to end.

Then, right as the beat drops and the first verse comes in, Varner makes his first move–and it’s a good one, too.

He raises one hand into the air and waves it back and forth as he steps backward at the same time.

The high school students in the crowd let out the loudest cheer that they’ve done yet–everyone is loving it.

He continues his dance by sliding some fingers over the brim of his hat and running a hand down the length of his pants.

The crowd is completely focused on Officer Varner–he has their absolute attention.

The lyrics in the song then mention something about riding a horse.

So what does Officer Varner do?

Exactly what he should do, of course.

He turns to the side and acts like he is riding a horse.

The crowd loves this and erupts.

He continues his routine with a few more casual moves that keep the crowd interested the entire time.

At the very end, Officer Varner takes off the cowboy hat and pulls a marker from his pocket.

The video ends there but I can only imagine that he plans to sign the hat and toss it into the crowd.

It seems like the only fitting end to an incredible performance.

And the beauty of his dance routine was this–it wasn’t overdone.

Sometimes it doesn’t take incredible dance moves to captivate an audience.

If you’ve got the right attitude, the right wardrobe, and you play the right song, then people are going to love it.

As long as you fully commit to your role and conjure the confidence of Officer Varner then you can’t go wrong.
