There are some people out there that admit they were born in the wrong era and one of those people is Zack Pinsent. That is the only way to explain it.
Since the age of 14, the Brighton, UK man has totally rejected modern clothing, instead choosing to wear only historical period pieces.
His era of preference? According to his Instagram, all of his garb dates between the years 1666 up to the 1920s, but his favorite clothing comes from the Georgian and Regency period.
Understandably, almost everything Pinsent wears is something he made himself.
There just aren’t very many clothing retailers out there supplying the types of items he fancies.
Somewhere along the way, the 25-year-old even started his own tailoring business, Pinsent Tailoring, to assist other people with their historical wardrobe choices.
Since the BBC did a feature on him, his business is booming. What started as a hobby has continued on to make him some serious change. People online can’t stop talking about how much they love his fun outfits and his Instagram page now has over 300,000 followers.
“Bespoke period clothing for Men and Women crafted with historical accuracy,” his website reads.
While one might expect that Pinsent would feel weird walking around in public in obscure period clothing, it turns out, he has fully embraced it.
“People might go, ‘Oh, that’s strange’. It is strange,” Pinsent explains. “If I enjoy what I’m doing, then why change?”
He also added that wearing the clothes around town has been a “huge confidence builder”. It makes him feel ten feet high. While we can only imagine the number of stares he gets every day walking around like that, we have to say, his look certainly is pretty cool in its own unique way. His outfits are all one of a kind.
Pinsent says he doesn’t do it because he wants to be noticed though.
“I’ve never felt more happy with just wearing what I’m wearing as a form of self-expression, you know,” said Pinsent. “It’s never been an attention thing anyway.
It’s just the way he likes to present himself. His message is more about just doing you and not caring what anyone else thinks.
“I think it’s always this really important thing to just believe in yourself, which sounds like a ridiculous thing and is said too much, but it’s worth it sometimes,” said Pinsent.
It’s impressive what he has been able to accomplish just by following his passion.
Pinsent is entirely self-taught and has had no formal tailoring training. Over time, his style and skill have evolved naturally on their own. At the age of 14, he ceremoniously burned his last pair of jeans and never looked back.
“I’ve never had the wish to dress normally. I did that for so many years and I hated it, so what’s the point of returning?” said Pinsent.
While sporting historical clothing isn’t for everyone, it works for him, and if he loves what he is wearing, who is to say there is anything wrong with that? All in all, we think it’s pretty neat what he is doing and plenty of other people agree as well.
Pinsent now has clients all over the world and he recently returned from a business trip to New York.
While sadly, we probably won’t be among his clients anytime soon, we can definitely appreciate the careful attention to detail he places into all of his pieces. We wish him the best of luck as he continues on honing his skills as a tailor into the future.
