We always thought household cats have a tremendous dislike for water.
As turns out, though, this isn’t always the case. Some large cats, like tigers, are commonly fine being soaked in water. They take a nice dip into the water to cool themselves off or hunt prey. There are even some domesticated cat breeds who are well known to enjoy swimming when the opportunity arises. (Source: Britannica)
It’s not every day that you get to see a cat bathing, let alone swimming.
This Main Coon isn’t your ordinary type of cat.
The breed, known for their large size, are typical of Maine on the East Coast of the USA. They were popular “mousers”, on farms, ships, and of course, in homes. They’re a rather useful breed, and according to Cattime.com, great with people:
“These kitties have more going for them than size. They’re affectionate without being needy, they’re adaptable, and they’ve kept their hunting instincts, just in case you need a good mouser.”
She looks very cautiously, testing the waters with her paws.
She knows the odds are as great as the massive water yet this brave Maine Coon doesn’t look like a quitter.
After a couple of paw-checks in the water, she throws her vision further away from the still-vast water.
What could she be looking at? Across the water, but not so far away is this curious kitty’s owner, waiting patiently in the water, she quietly coos to this giant cat, boding it to further her in.
Will this cat be brave enough?
She’s indeed a courageous Maine Coon! Brave enough it would seem, to go past the paw, and go rather deep.
Perhaps that’s why they needed to put a collar on her if she’s going to be that adventurous? At least this cat gets to go on fun adventures into the great outdoors.
With her little paws and determination, the brave cat makes it!
Well, her bravery gets her more than one foot in the water, and eventually all of them. And not only that, but she manages to tip-toe all the way over to her mom. With a cautious probing hand, she even reaches out to her. It’s clear that this cat really loves and trusts her mom to follow her into a lake!
Mom couldn’t be happier to swim with her brave feline.
It’s clear that these two have a real bond between them. So much so that her kitty will brave the unknown water of a lake to get to her.
She also looks up to her other owner, it’s either she’s asking for approval or an invitation to join them.
What a jolly family they all make in the great outdoors! And how lucky for this couple to have such an adventurous cat, so keen to join them on one adventure after another.
This Maine Coon definitely enjoys every bit of the world outside – like “geese watching”?
I guess it’s not just humans who enjoy sitting back and enjoying views of the great outdoors. You’d think that such a large cat with a propensity for hunting would be more tempted to chase such a large group of birds. Maybe not because it’s also a group of large birds.
This proves that not all cats are afraid of the water, some are even beyond brave to take a dip in it. And we think any cat owner would be delighted to find out that their feline isn’t afraid of getting wet. That way, cleaning them up to keep them tidy all the time isn’t going to be a hard task to accomplish.
