The child in question is a seven-year-old boy who attends the Coral Way K-8 Center in Miami, Florida. According to a CNN report, the boy caused quite a stir after he got in trouble for playing with his food.

A teacher walked with the boy outside of the cafeteria, where he caused even more trouble. The child allegedly attacked the teacher, punching her repeatedly in the hallway. The teacher tried to restrain the boy, and they ended up both going down.

As the two fell to the floor, the boy relentlessly attacked the teacher, using his hands and feet in any way possible. As they hit the ground he pulled her hair. The teacher had been trying to restrain the boy the entire time, but she had been unsuccessful until after he was on the ground.

Once the child was successfully restrained he was taken to the principal’s office. The police were called, and the teacher decided to press charges. It turns out this incident wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. This was the boy’s second outburst within the last three months.

The police placed the boy in handcuffs and escorted him outside of the school. They explained that the tools were there to prevent “harm to others or himself,” and they insisted that “the manner in which he was transported to the receiving facility was done in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.”

The child’s father, Rolando Fuentes, was not happy with how the police had handled the situation. “I know my kid did wrong, and he will be punished for what he did,” the dad said, “but what the police officer did afterward, this is out of hand. Unbelievable.”

The child’s mother, Mercy Alvarez, was completely distraught over the incident. She was noticeably distressed during her interview with CNN. The woman assured the press that her son has seen a psychologist and that he had “no issues with aggression” or “mental health issues.” Still, the police have taken the boy to a hospital for another evaluation.

Some people believe the police acted in the best interest of everyone involved, but others hold that using handcuffs on a child is too extreme. Did the police use the appropriate and necessary amount of force? Share your opinion in the comments below.
