When this fourth grade Tennessee Vols fan heard that his teacher was having a college football spirit day he was a little bummed that he didn’t have any gear. But after brainstorming with his teacher, he realized that he could wear an orange shirt and design his own logo to put on the front. Nearly every day that week, he approached his teacher telling her the ideas he had college color day was upon them and he could debut his original art work.

Unfortunately after lunch, the boy’s spirits were crushed. “He came back to my room, put his head on his desk and was crying. Some girls at the lunch table next to his (who didn’t participate in college colors day) had made fun of his sign that he had attached to his shirt.” He was devastated. But that’s not where the story ends. The Tenessee Volunteers went above and beyond to make this kids year

His teacher posted the boys story onto Facebook to see if anyone had any connections to the team so that if she were to get him something to show his Tennessee pride, it would be a little more meaningful. Well Facebook delivered and so did the Vols. After the post went viral and got the attention of thousands, the team sent a care package to the school with all sorts of swag, not only for their new favorite student but for the whole class. His classmates were all excited to receive bracelets, water bottles, and cooling towels- all high-fiving and talking while they filled up their waters and soaked their towels.

And the surprises didn’t stop there. The spirit squad put together a video for him with the school mascots on their Facebook page thanking him for his support and that it’s never what’s on the outside that counts, but whats on the inside. The signature rock on campus was also painted with his t-shirt design for all the college to see (and of course their social media followers). But the most heartwarming gesture was that Tennessee’s school shop printed a shirt with the logo that the student had made himself and sold them specifically to raise money to end bullying through the program STOMP Out Bullying. All amazing gesture for a student that was made fun of for showing some college pride. According to a school spokesperson, 50,000 shirts had already been ordered within a week.

The story made national news of course after all the attention the shirts got and according to the TODAY Show, there was one more surprise that they offered the fourth grader. The Tennessee Volunteers offered him a 4-year scholarship including tuition and fees should he choose to go there in the future. He has a while to think about that possible graphic design career, since he would be in the class of 3032, but that doesn’t take away from the gesture. All the young boy cares about for now is that his favorite school recognized him when he needed to be seen and supported.
