Animals and humans are more alike than we think. And we’re not just limiting this to the theory that man descended from apes. For instance, when an individual is alone in a foreign land and doesn’t speak the language, feelings of fear, confusion, and apprehension increase. Similarly, animals that are taken from their habitat and placed in a new environment will understandably exhibit the same behavior. This is partly why some animals either show hostility or hesitation upon initial interaction. This is often triggered by humans’ poor understanding of how to properly approach animals and ease them into adapting smoothly.

Take this parrot who once loathed humans and was so stressed out, it ended up plucking out its own feathers.

The bird was said to have had many foster families before it finally found the perfect home.

It bounced from one family to another simply because it was said to be “too mean.” But one woman was patient enough and eventually, a connection was made.

“I just started singing ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’. He threw back his feathers, he grabbed his tail, and he started snapping and dancing in the cage.”

The parrot, which she named Chicken Man, took his time warming up to her. He was still evidently stressed, quite possibly from being in many different homes with people he never got the chance to be familiar with. The woman who decided to adopt him really extended kindness and patience towards Chicken Man. She would attempt to teach him to stop plucking, and gently talk to him and make him feel as relaxed as possible.

She realized what Chicken Man needed was security and affection.

“I wrapped him real tight like a little burrito, and as soon as I held him close, he was completely calm.”

Not long after that special moment, Chicken Man started feeling more at home and was noticeably calmer and less stressed.

It turns out the parrot just wanted to feel safe and loved, and the woman who decided to foster him did just that.

Warming up to his new foster family, fellow birds included, Chicken Man started showing more of his personality. His pet parent describes him as “a little goofball” – chatty and a complete natural at copying things.

From hostile and stressed to silly and playful, Chicken Man became a happy parrot again, thanks to his new foster family. It was a gradual process but the parrot’s trust in his new mom developed completely and allowed him to adapt well.

Now, Chicken Man doesn’t hesitate to step up anyone’s fingers and be held.

It was a heartwarming achievement for the foster family, to see a once stressed out parrot now feel at home.

He’s even become extremely popular on Instagram, with many users commenting on how beautiful he looks and expressing their wonder if his feathers will ever grow back.

“When I saw that little light at the end of the tunnel, and he gave me that little dance or let me kiss his nose, it was rewarding beyond measure.”

It takes a true animal lover with nothing but compassion and love to coax a once seemingly angry parrot into giving its new family a chance and letting itself be taken care of by someone new.

Chicken Man went through many impressive changes, all thanks to his new foster family.

Hopefully, his story will serve as a gentle reminder to families adopting pets to show more patience, consistency, and love towards animals like Chicken Man who really just want to feel protected and cared for.
