They say dogs are a (wo)man’s best friend. Now, if you have a spare $100, you can put that friendship on display with a sterling silver friendship necklace and collar set!

Tara Neray is a jewelry designer and owner of Slashpile Designs. Her goal is to make quirky and meaningful pieces that “start a conversation,” and her designs pay tribute to science, nature, and our furry friends.

Slashpile offers three options for pet-lovers who have a flair for the friendship necklaces of the 90s.

The first is a necklace/collar charm combo featuring a dog bone. The cutout from the collar charm serves as the centerpiece of the buyer’s necklace.

So cute!

If you don’t love the idea of wearing a bone necklace, the same set comes in a heart shape. After all, our pets do tend to have a piece of our hearts.

And cat-lovers can take part in the pet-twinning fun too – a kitty-shaped pendant and collar set is also available!

We’re charmed!

Of course, the handmade sterling silver pieces come at a price – $90 to be exact. Add the $10 for shipping from Ontario, Canada on top of that and you’re looking at a cool 3 figures.

Then again, who can put a price on the love you have for your pet?

Now, if you’re really willing to invest, you can add on personalized engraving for another $50. After all, if you’re shelling out a Benjamin for doggy-daughter bling, don’t you want your name on it?

If you’re more practical, you might consider having your phone number engraved on your pet’s piece so it can serve as an ID tag as well.

That is unless your pet takes jewelry very seriously and has multiple charms/tags on their collar.

If you find the investment slightly (or entirely) ludicrous, keep in mind that Americans spend $70 BILLION on their pets each year. While much of that goes towards food or vet bills, a lot is spent on more frivolous things – $440 million went towards Halloween costumes alone in 2018!

$150 is starting to look like chump change.

If those figures surprise you, you’ll be even more shocked to know that according to Business Insider the average American fish owner spends $62.53 a month on their aquatic companions – and fish are the cheapest pets.

Cat owners spend an average of $92.98 a month on their feline friends and dog owners spend roughly $139.80.

The things we do for love!

Neray is a pet lover herself, so she knows just how far her customers are willing to go to show their affection. Her own dog, Lemmy, a greyhound rescue, seems to have the run of the house and yard.

If you’re not a pet owner (or not willing to throw down cash for pet bling), there are plenty of other designs to admire in the Slashpile shop.

In fact, you may have seen some of Neray’s designs in museum gift shops across the U.S. Her molecule line is available in the gift shop of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Now, there are other options for pet lovers who want to twin with their fur babies for less. For those who like leather more than metal, Friendship Collar makes matching bracelets and collars for under $40.

Ridiculous? Maybe. But to each their own!
