Signs are put up with the intention of informing the public, so if you’d have told us that we would be writing a whole slideshow about signs before seeing these pictures, we would have thought “how boring!”
Let’s be honest, most public signs are pretty uninteresting- so when we come across an unexpectedly witty one, it deserves all the recognition it gets.
Well, it turns out that there’s actually a lot more witty sign-makers out there than we thought, and we quite easily gathered together some of the best ones! So without further ado, here are 75 hilarious signs people had to snap a picture of.
1. A wise doctor once wrote…
The thing is, they’re not wrong here. We’re not entirely sure what the purpose of this sign is, but we think that it’s brilliant! This could bring anyone out of a bad mood.
2. We can tell
This is a great way of showing just how desperate you are for a graphic designer. This sign is witty and eye catching- so we bet they were inundated with job applications in no time! Only problem is, they missed out their company logo…
3. An offer we can’t turn down
Oh Trip Advisor, the place where regular members of the public act as if they’re top-class food critics… We love the fact that this café are choosing to make light of a bad review, and we’re pretty confident that their sense of humor about things will only get them more customers in the long run.
4. They’ve got a point
This is one of those signs that we have to laugh at, but at the same time, we can’t help wondering what they’re actually advertising here… Are they a church? A phone repair company? Apple?
Oh, we do love an ironic sign. Though we’re yet again wondering what these guys are advertising. Maybe it’s all a part of some extensive marketing scheme?
6. Clumsy Joe
Every workplace has a person like Joe. The clumsy, accident prone one of the group, and the one that subsequently causes the workplace accident figures to skyrocket up. Maybe your career change was the best option, Joe.
7. Strip clubs Quarantined sign
This sign is actually pretty clever. The strip club is closed, and the strippers are clothed, if you think about it. If a person with a lisp read out the sign, it would sound bang on.
8. Are you cold?
Advertising is all about convincing people to buy your stuff, and we think this bookstore has slightly missed the mark here. Books certainly wouldn’t make us happy as a big puffa jacket and a thick woolly scarf in that kind of weather. But there’s no denying that we’d rather be cold with a book, than cold without a book.
9. The most interesting ad I’ve ever seen
This sign is clever, though it has us questioning if even that tiny bit of electricity used to light the one lamp was worth it for such a small sign. If it got enough people taking pictures and talking about it, then we think it would be.
10. Roomba on the run!
Now this is a sign that really made us smile. We wonder if this runaway Roomba was ever found again? Something tells us that he’s long gone. He’s probably starting a new life in Jamaica right about now.
11. Explosive realization
As far as church messages go, this one was more than a little unexpected. It goes without saying that it’s best to not do anything when you have diarrhea, just to be on the safe side.
12. “The sign on my husbands graphic design department.”
Oh the irony… Funnily enough, that’s exactly how one of our own homemade signs would turn out- but since we’re not graphic designers, we’d be easily forgiven. This man, on the other hand…
13. Well That’s A Good Way
Honestly, this seems like the easiest ad in the world to make (and it probably was) but these guys are definitely onto something! This is the kind of ad that just about everybody would stop and read, because let’s face it, we’re all addicited to our smart phones.
14. Earthquake Detection Kit
Out of all of the earthquake detection kits we’ve seen, this one is definitely our favorite. If there was an earthquake, the first place we’d run would be to here, just so we could see those googly eyes rattling around. It would be hilarious!
15. “This sign in the bathroom at my college.”
As a contact lens wearer and a keen Dorito eater, this sign made us cringe so bad. But it sure does get the message across more than most hand-washing signs. Perfect for these COVID times!
16. Like, just be careful guys
As far as emergencies go, we’re not entirely sure that any emergency is ever planned out (hence the name). But maybe this sign would stop a few people from doing something deliberately dumb that day. Or people might do the opposite, just to spite the sign.
17. Come again?
Two signs have been merged together here to create something which doesn’t make sense in the slightest. The picture tells us that we should be afraid of slipping, while the sign tells us to watch out for snakes. Should be worried that we’re going to slip on snakes?
18. That’s a big muffin.
While we think that the car is a part of this advertising campaign, we can’t be one hundred percent sure. Imagine parking under this sign and retuning to find a giant muffin on top of your car?! You’d have to laugh about it.
19. The last straw!
This is what happens when a dad who’s fond of the odd dad joke or two, decides to lead a protest. In all honesty, we kind of like the light hearted approach to making a stand. Maybe this is the way to do it!
20. No trespassing
We think the motive behind this sign is to creep you out so much that you wouldn’t dare trespass, just in case. Granted, it’s probably a joke, but isn’t this how all horror movies start? We wouldn’t want to take any chances.
21. Not all hero wear capes. Some create signs of miserable joy.
Good old Roger loved nothing more than to complain about life, and when he passed away, his loved ones wanted to leave a really special plaque for him. We’re not sure that Roger would be too happy about his memory having to live on in the park that he hated- but at least everyone knows how much he hated it.
Forget being drunk, we couldn’t attempt most of these words when we’re sober! This hilariously witty sign probably makes for great entertainment for the bar staff, as they listen to people trying to pronounce the words. Though we reckon it could get slightly annoying after a while.
23. A sign in India
While we’re pretty sure that they’re not being serious here, there’s no way that we’d want to risk it and find out. Who would be crazy enough to throw stones at a crocodile in the first place? People in India must be seriously brave.
24. Understatement of the year.
If we saw this sign, the first thing we’re doing is turning and getting as far away from that place as possible. Using the words, “loose gravel” to describe what’s essentially a landslide, is like calling a lion a big cat. It just doesn’t do the situation justice.
25. “We will, we will… Think of a better title next time.”
We bet you couldn’t help reading that out in the tune to “We will Rock You.” This sign is great for all the music-lovers out there, because it’s catchy, and pretty hard to forget. Who else has the song stuck in their heads now?
26. Gen Z is unstoppable
Tear gas is never fun, but do we really have to bring people’s moms into this? Everyone remembers the ‘your mom’ jokes from back in middle school, but some people just don’t know when to give it a rest. Still pretty funny, though.
27. “At the bar I work at. I love it.”
The customer is always right… until they’re not. If you’ve worked in a bar before, then we bet you can really get behind this sign. People’s expectations are way too high, these days!
28. We have so many questions
This is one of those signs where, out of context, we have no clue what’s going on. Did Pete have a pet velociraptor? Or was ‘velociraptor’ actually just a nickname that was fondly given to Pete? We need answers.
29. No words
Imagine if you’d read this sign right after handing your car over to the valet man. You wouldn’t be too impressed.
30. “Chicken gotta make money somehow…”
The chicken is opting for a new career move, but at $3.79 a strip, we don’t think she’s going to be driving around in a Range Rover anytime soon. Quick, go and show some support to your local chicken.
31. We can all relate
We’ve been both the wife inside target and the person on the outside waiting for our mom, and we know which position we’d rather be in. Target just has a magical way of drawing you towards things that you didn’t even know you needed, and we always come out having forgotten half of what was actually on our shopping list.
32. You don’t say
It’s unclear how this sign is now floating in the middle of the pool, but whoever did it is probably about to lose their job. Was it worth it though? Absolutely.
33. Finger licking drive
This ad mashup is so funny, that we’re sat here wondering if things were really just down to coincidence here. We smell a marketing campaign…
34. The Karen spot
There’s no doubts that 2019’s COVID outbreak has caused huge differences of opinions all around the world, involving conspiracies, protests, and the ‘anti-mask’ campaigners. This business thought of the perfect way to keep everyone happy- by creating a special, mask-free area specially for all the Karens in the area. The mirror is a great added touch.
35. Found locally… can relate
Is this isn’t an accurate representation of our brains when we’re trying to sleep, then we don’t know what is. It blows our minds that there are people out there who don’t actually have a thinking voice in their heads. How do they get anything done?!
36. Dammit, Abby!
Imagine pulling a sickie from your job, only to drive past and see that they’d made a very public announcement that clearly says, “We know you’re lying, now get your butt in here.” We bet every single person named Abby who drove past this sign had a two-second panic until they remembered that they don’t work at a restaurant.
37. Bookstore’s Closed Sign in Seattle
These bookstore owners would rather not get into the nitty-gritty details about why the store is closed, so they decided that it’s better to leave things vague. We love how they used humor in their announcement. There’s just no way to be mad at them after reading this sign!
38. “Oh no, it’s a cop.”
We don’t know what they’re advertising- but nevertheless, this sign makes a pretty good point. Do normal dogs sit up a little straighter when they see a police dog? Do they walk to heel without their owners even having to ask? We’d love to know.
39. That’s A Hole Sign
You know it’s time to trim the hedges when a canal museum suddenly becomes a very different type of exhibition. In total honesty, and anal museum would probably draw in a lot more customers than a canal museum would. Maybe it’s a new marketing strategy?
40. Heed the warning
These homeowners have encountered so many strangers coming up their driveway, that they decided to make a special sign to welcome them in. Sat navs and GPS systems have a funny little way of taking drivers down some suspicious dirt tracks and one-way streets, so this sign saves the hassle of having to turn around later on.
41. Hold up
Okay, so this item requires two people to lift it- but what exactly will they be using? Are people’s arms really that far down? We feel very uncomfortable.
