The COVID-19 pandemic changed a lot of things in people’s lives. It all started a year ago and quickly spread to different parts of the world. To stop the spread, various governments implemented quarantines and lockdowns. Social gatherings were avoided, multiple businesses were closed, and some took a work-from-home setup. Everybody had to limit movement to prevent getting the virus or passing the virus to others if one is asymptomatic.
Because of being required to stay at home for several months, people got so used to being in their jammies and home clothes and missed visiting the salon or the barber to have themselves groomed or to at least get a haircut. This is what led some people to entrust haircutting to their family members who don’t have the skill to do it perfectly. For those who missed having great nails, they tried taking the DIY route in the hopes of achieving great results.
Here are 45 DIY disasters that these individuals got for their quarantine look. I hope they realized never to take that route again.
1) An Uneven Oddity
Scissors should be slashed with a sure hand. If not, things get complicated. This woman’s hair recently suffered at the hands of a floppy hand. Either cut the rest off or wait a few months for all of this to blow over.
2) Patches
Proper use of a buzzer is an artform, something reserved for a barber or aspiring hair stylist. A buzzer that’s fallen into the wrong hands can be a problem. Here, a brave somebody found himself with spare time and styling tools. The results aren’t pretty…
3) Man Turns to Spouse Amid Crisis
With the impossibility of reaching a professional hair stylist, many have turned to their spouses for work. In this case, the result is swathes of splotchy hair. He just wanted a normal cut.
4) Classic Bowl Cut
Those without haircutting experience need guidance. Some people have actually attempted to give a haircut with kitchenware as stencils. This isn’t going to end well, that’s for sure.
5) Traditional Bowl
The typical bowl cut is not quite dead, making a strong revival during the COVID-19 pandemic. We should be optimistic about the future, but maybe things truly are lost. This is a borderline perfect bowl cut.
6) Almost Alfalfa
This guy’s rocking a new quarantine style, with a strip of long hair tucked down his forehead amid a buzzcut. He just needs some gel product and he’ll look exactly like Alfalfa from The Little Rascals. His distant daze speaks volumes.
7) Buzz not Buddy
The buzzer can yield some pretty devastating results in the wrong hands. This guy took a huge chunk out of the hair on the back of his head. It’ll grow back, fortunately. But for now, it looks pretty gnarly.
8) Uneven Times, Uneven Hair
These are strange days indeed, necessitating weird, uneven haircuts. Some may say it’s due to a lack of experience and technical expertise. Others would argue it’s an artistic choice.
9) Brother Barber
Brothers, you love them to death. Some brothers will always have your back. Others can’t shave the back of your head worth a darn. Designating an inexperienced brother as barber can be a disaster.
10) Beard-Trimming Barber
A man has a clear quarantine message: don’t cut your hair with a beard trimmer. He should know – he tried it. Half of his hair sits awkwardly draped across the back of his head. His results were absolutely astonishing.
11) Sharp Homemade Nails
Quarantines have ushered people into figuring out novel ways to stay entertained. Some have dabbled in beautification. These nails look vampiric, effectively combining gothic horror and nail polish.
12) Missing a Spot
Almost every hardcore hair blunder seems to fall at the hands of the clippers. This time, only a single patch was taken from this young man’s fine head of hair. On the bright side, most of his hair is still there.
13) Spouse Surprise
Some spouses have the gift, cutting and shaping hair with relative ease. Others shouldn’t be allowed around scissors. Here, a classic spouse spawning hack-job can be seen in all its glory.

According to his Twitter, Daniel recently had his hair cut by someone named Sophie, presumably a friend or family member. She did a rough job, to put it lightly. It looks like there’s an animal on his head.

Brittany’s mother was tasked with cutting this man’s hair. It seems like a failed attempt at the popular fade. His head and hair look layered like the walls of the grand canyon.

A man called on the services of his wife amid a difficult time. She did what she could… He looks surprisingly cheery. Maybe he’s a glass half full kind of guy.

The bottom hairline is riddled with ridges. It’s as uneven as a jagged rock. The photo is even a little out of focus, adding to the ridiculousness.

Diana calls her quarantine nails “inverse French.” They barely encompass half of the nail… She did set herself up for great success next time around now that she’s practiced a little.

The absence of even the smallest beautification services have led to unintended consequences, plighting the average Joe and Jane. Take a look at her upper lip. She burned her skin attempting to wax.

Not everybody learns how to color within the lines. These nebulous nails are fully covered… but so is the nearby skin. Cleanup is absolutely necessary.
29) Battling with Premature Baldness
A man recently lost a battle with baldness. Not because he was naturally forced into it by age… but because he decided to get a haircut during the middle of a lockdown. Now, he’s paying the cosmetic consequences.
30) Short-Short-Long
Here’s another premiere quarantine cut by Mom. You can easily see the different lengths of hair across this young man’s head. On the bright side, it’s not near as bad as countless others.
31) The Tan Line
You know there’s been a mistake when your haircut reveals a tan line inches deep down your head. Whoever cut the bottom half of this man’s hair had little to no clue what they were doing.
32) A Clearing in the Forest
This man’s new haircut is reminiscent of a clearing in the woods. It’s spacious in the middle and dense on the sides. We can only hope he grows his hair back quickly.

This child recently had the bottom and back portions of his hair clipped clean off. He looks somewhat ridiculous. Fortunately, he’s got a ton of hair to work with up top.

Quarantines have prompted very liberal uses of hair clippers. This guy has a duality of man thing going. Half of his head is thick with hair, while the other half is bare. It makes for a captivating sight from the back.
35) Hair Horror Story: Before and After
He needed a haircut, and a haircut he got. Options were severely limited, so he enlisted his girlfriend. Before and after pictures show fear and shock.
36) Clean Shaven in the Worst Way Possible
He tried to cut his own hair, paying the consequences for his foolish actions. He ended up shaving the bottom half of his hair clean off. He’s left with some strange cousin of the bowl cut.
37) Unique Hair Flare
People are inevitably getting antsy amid staying at home most of the day, everyday. Sometimes, ya just gotta mix things up. Often, people change their hair to keep things interesting. But without a professional hair stylist around, things can get a little… hairy. It looks like he tried to get a unique cut, but things went horribly wrong.

The dude needed a haircut with no professional around. He then turned to his loving wife. She clearly doesn’t know her way around a set of clippers.

We all take Ls every now and then. The coronavirus pandemic has altered everybody’s life in some way, shape, or form. He needed a haircut… Well, the look of defeat in the bottom corner sums it up perfectly.

I’m not quite sure what happened here. Did he attempt to buzz the back of his hair? The patches are so random. It’ll take weeks or months to fill those patches.

Extreme times call for extreme measures. When there aren’t any professional hair stylists on hand, letting your 11-year-old cut your hair doesn’t seem too far out of line. And then you see the results…
