So many brave men and women risk their lives every day as firefighters. When the events of 9/11 took place, the FDNY firefighters rushed into the chaos as everyone else ran out. Many of those firefighters never made it back to their families, leaving holes that couldn’t possibly be filled. Those heroes must have bravery in their bloodlines because many of their kids followed their footsteps in their honor.

Kids like Matthew Jovic, now a grown man, Jovic eagerly joined the FDNY to honor his father Anthony Jovic. Matthew’s father, Anthony, perished in 9/11 when he was just a baby. The tragedy has been a shadow Mathew lives under and he’s excited to start his career, where he’ll carry his father with him. He’s just 1 of 12 firefighters graduating in 2019 who had parents that perished in 9/11.

These firefighters would be so proud to see their legacies carried on! The FDNY class of 19′ has 12 honoring their fallen parents, two, joining their brother who graduated in 2015.

Legacies like firefighters and policemen run deep, even after death these kids set out to honor their parents.

“I think it’s a great tribute to their dads, it’s quite inspirational to hear that they’re following in their fathers’ footsteps.” Said Gerard Fitzgerald, president of the Uniformed Firefighter Association.
